Race in Commemoration of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month to Raise Awareness, Funds for Domestic Violence Survivors

Decatur, Ga- DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston invites the public to join her for the 7th Annual Love Run 5K on Saturday, February 26, 2022 to raise awareness of teen dating violence and funds for domestic violence survivors. The Love Run is held in February each year in commemoration of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. After being held as a virtual-only race in 2021 due to the pandemic, registrants this year have the option to participate in person or virtually.

The Love Run is a family-friendly event which attracts both walkers and runners. The in-person race is electronically chip-timed as participants follow a fast-paced, AJC Peachtree Road Race qualifying course through historic downtown Decatur. The event will kick-off from the Decatur Square, located at 101 E. Court St., Decatur, GA 30030 at 8:30 a.m. Virtual registrants will be mailed a race packet and may participate at their leisure.

According to national statistics, one in three teens in the US will experience physical, sexual, or emotional abuse from someone they’re in a relationship with before they become adults, and nearly half (43%) of college women report experiencing violent or abusive dating behaviors. The risks to survivors of abuse have been compounded by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We must continue to shine a spotlight on this disturbing epidemic impacting our youth,” said District Attorney Boston, who created the Love Run 5K in 2016 while serving as DeKalb County Solicitor-General. “Educating our community about the cycle of intimate partner violence plays an integral role in prevention. We hope to raise awareness and save lives,” said Boston.

All Love Run proceeds benefit the important work of Women's Resource Center to End Domestic Violence. Since its inception, the Love Run has raised more than $49,000 for WRC.
